Wrocław University Stanisław Baranowski Polar Station at the outwash plain of Werenskiold Glacier (Wedel Jarlsberg Land, West Spitsbergen) has existed since 1971.
For forty years it has been a camp base for Wrocław University geographic expeditions. Climatologic, glaciologic, geomorphologic and geologic research conducted on Werenskiold Glacier and in its vicinity is based at the Station. The research was begun in 1957 by the Institute of Geography and Regional Development of Wrocław University within the framework of the International Geophysical Year (1957-58).
